Hide and Seek - Shot 7 - Final

Updated: Aug 25, 2021

Monday 16th - Friday 20th August

This week I focused animating the main shot for this short. I knew this would be a piece I would need/ want to include in my showreel as its my pantomime piece (As well as body mechanics).

I wanted this shot in my showreel as it contained a lot of elements I knew would challenge me:

-First being animating two characters as this means twice the amount of work in the same amount of time.

-Second is two characters physically interacting. I found this part really challenging as it required parenting the characters to each other which I have had limited experience at doing.

which relates to my - Third challenge which was to perform IK/FK Switches and parenting. Both of these are elements I have briefly touched on in the past but have never challenged myself to perform multiple on one piece. I had to perform IK/FK switches for when the character goes from planted hands in to animated arms and back and I needed parenting to connect the baby to the fathers hand so it followed his movements and then the fathers other hand to the babies waist so it followed too.

Initially I was really struggling with this piece, the switches and parenting was a real struggle and I needed advice from Leon to fix some gaps in my knowledge. once that was sorted everything began to become a lot smoother and I could finally get to the part I enjoy the most, over lapping action and polishing with little finesses.

I would have liked to have been able to complete the whole short but due to complications my end I had to focus on the sections I knew would want in my showreel as this is the main goal of producing these shorts.
