Monday 9th - Friday 13th August
I began production on Hide and seek this week.
I started by blocking out the main scenery which will be interacted with and some small background bits. I then placed the characters in the scene.
Though I planned everything by weeks, setbacks due to my current skill level and learning curves slowed my progression through various projects, meaning I having limited time for this project. What I intend to do is complete the main shots I wish to include in my Showreel as this was my main goal for the MA and any additional shots I had planed will run over till after the course should I want to complete the short in its entirety.
This week I focused on a shot where the dad turns to look at his son from behind the tree as a he toddles over to a bush to try find him in it. I wanted to focus on this piece as it had a couple of challenges in it. one being a camera move to change focus for the audience and a small section of the child walking. Its only for a split second but moving a character off the spot is quite hard to do convincingly so I wanted to challenge myself to do this.
I am sad I didn't have longer on this shot, I wish I could have pushed this a bit more, add a little more toony to it so this could be something to re animate in future. I am happy with the dads animation, I feel it shows what I was going for, leads the audience in the right direction and isn't too big that it distracts from the main event. I need to begin animation on the next shot next week otherwise it wont be complete (being an important showreel shot, I need that one more than this one) I found this shot a good opportunity to get use to the rigs ready for next week and it was a nice challenge for me as I struggled to get the little boy walking and moving like a toddler.
Next week I will be animating a shot where the father picks up the boy and twirls him around. I think this is going to be very challenging. I really need to stick to a work flow this time as I have a tendency to wander and start polishing too soon and get stuck with something that feels to stiff.
I intend to really block out the key poses, block in anticipation and overshoot and in-betweens after then move on to the rest.
