Monday 21st December
Over the weekend and today I began designing the main characters.
Adam is a meek factory working with not much going for him. He wears a tie and shirt because he thinks he need to look smart no matter what he's doing. I wanted him to be made up of soft, rounded shapes to represent his gentle nature but experimented with sharper shapes like triangles and rectangles just in case I accidentally cam across a designs that really worked using those shapes.
The rectangle worked out very nicely. I used rounded corners to still show his gentle nature but the rectangle shape shows is stability and drive to keep going which I liked.
I tried out different colour schemes for him. The lighter colours didn't work, they portrayed a happy go lucky feeling that didn't fit Adam through the story, He is down on his luck, he's lost the love of his life and he is clumsily making his way through a greyscale world so the darker colour scheme seemed more fitting. I added a splash of brown to his hair so he stand out a little more from the greyscaleness of where he lives.
The being his a strong, powerful God of this world so I wanted him to have stable sturdy shapes like pyramids and boxes, but added curly horns or antlers and a long tail to show he is a regal, smooth talker. I went with thick, rounded shapes in the end because I didn't want him to be a steroid, blockheaded beast, but a strong yet well spoken, suave kind of guy and feel the shapes I have chosen work well for this.
I am unsure on the final colour palette as I want him to be brightly as it needs to hit at that his action's (Turing Adam in to a Demon) actually leads to Adams goal and salvation in the end.
But I cant find a colour palette I like.
In the sessions when we get back to uni I am going to ask for feedback on this.
